An Accra Circuit court has arraigned for the case of a 30 year old soldier for allegedly having sex couple of times with a 14 year old girl at Burma Camp, Accra.
Cpl Offei Richard Okyere, name of the culprit who was charged with defilement, has pleaded not guilty.

The Court presided over by Adelaide Abui Kadey, remanded Cpl Okyere into Military custody. He is supposed to reappear on January 27 2021.

Detective Sergeant Opoku Aniagyei presented that a 53-year-old labourer of the Ghana Military Police residing at Burma Camp, Accra came to make a complain.

The victim is a 14-year-old Junior High School Student, and stays with her father. Her father made the complain to the authorities.

Detective Sergeant Aniagyei said the culprit, the soldier, also stayed at Burma Camp and that the 14 year old girl’s father and Okyere worked in the same Regiment and were very good friends.

Between July and September 2020, Okyere took advantage of the friendship between him and the young girl’s father and started paying visits to their house.

He said whiles her father was away, Okyere lured the young lady into their room and had sexual intercourse with the victim in a sofa chair.
The prosecutor said on another occasion, Okyere had sex with the victim on her father’s bed.

He said Okyere took the victim to a nearby bush about 200 meters away from their house and had sex with her.

The prosecution said on December 15 2020, the victim’s elder sister asked her if she was a virgin, and she said she wasn’t.

This made her father curious and asked who broke her virginity and she mentioned Okyere’s name.

He said on December 16 2020, the father reported the issue to a Military Police and Okyere was arrested and detained in a guardroom.

The prosecution said the Military Police issued a medical form to the father of the young lady to seek treatment for the victim at any government hospital.

A medical report was submitted on the young lady after medical examination on January 2 2021.
Later, the victim and her father together with Okyere were brought to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Accra by the Military Police.
