The woes of the Marhguy family deepens. In addition to Tyrone Iras Marhguy’s rejected enrollment at the Achimota School over the non-shaving of his hair, trouble is brewing at the St John’s Grammar School where two of his sisters were enrolled.
Part of triplets comprising two girls and himself, his siblings were relatively enrolled at the Grammar School without much incident despite sporting their dreadlocs but since Tyrone’s incident with Achimota School which has received national coverage, Tereo Kwame Marhguy the triplets father says he’s received a call from the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) for a scheduled meeting over a need for the girls to shave their hair.
Tereo Kwame Marhguy who is reportedly Germany based and came down to facilitate his ward’s enrollment expressed worry with the turn of events.
The senior Marhguy is stunned with the fascination with his wards’ hair instead of their brilliance.
“During his JHS days he won the best student ever and was even elected as the boy’s prefect and graduated with aggregate 6 so why will the school deny my son admission just because of his hairstyle rather than consider his brain?” he quipped.
Taking matters into his own hands, Tyrone Iras Marhguy appealed to President Akufo-Addo for his intervention submitting “the president always says that no child must be denied school especially Free Senior High School on any grounds, and this is a clear case study for the president to walk his talk.”
It’s unclear if the Marhguy family will succumb under the incessant pressure to shave or maintain their dreadlocs in line with their Nazarene vows.
